Konnected Joe™: How to Clean

Proper cleaning and care is the best way to make sure that your Konnected Joe lasts season after season. With just a few extra minutes after each cook, you can keep your Kamado Joe working and looking its best.

Step One: Buy a Grill Cover

If you don't already have one, a grill cover is step one to protecting your Konnected Joe Grill. Even with the cover, over time you might notice the red porcelain coating start to crack. That cracking is called crazing; it is normal and won't impact performance.

The Kamado Joe Heavy-Duty Grill Cover in the Classic Joe size will give you premium protection for your grill.

Step Two: Automatic Cleaning

Your Konnected Joe is easy to clean. First, place the Divide & Conquer® flexible cooking rack in the grill. Then add charcoal and light the charcoal using a fire starter or the AFS™ system.

As the charcoal is igniting, place both heat deflectors in the top rack of the Divide & Conquer flexible cooking system.

Note: Do not use automatic cook mode during the cleaning process.

Using classic cook mode, open the top and bottom vents fully, close the dome, and let the grill come up to 600˚F. Allow the grill to stay at 600˚ for 15 to 20 minutes.

After 15 to 20 minutes have elapsed, close the bottom vent, wait another 15 to 20 minutes and then close the top vent. The entire cleaning process should take about an hour and will burn off any extra residue inside the grill.

Step Three: Cool Down

Before cooking again and after the grill has fully cooled, brush the grates with a standard grill brush and brush off the heat deflectors and inside of the grill with a soft bristled brush.

After brushing down the grates and inside of the grill, remove the ash pan and vacuum out any remaining residue and ash using a Shop Vac.

You are now ready to cook again!

Cleaning your Konnected is a great way to make sure it keeps cooking great food year after year. Make sure to do this deep cleaning at least twice a year for the best results.
