Kamado Joe Heat Deflector


The Kamado Joe Heat Deflector adds great versatility to outdoor cooking, because it allows you to bake, grill or smoke with indirect heat. The deflector circulates the heat around your food to keep it moist and tender. Use with Kamado Joe Grill Natural Lump Charcoal for that perfect smoky flavor. Enjoy!

COOKING CONFIGURATIONS

 
BAKING
1. Remove cooking grate and light natural lump charcoal.
2. Wait 15 minutes for charcoal to fully heat.
3. Place Heat Deflector metal stand on top of fire ring.
4. Place Heat Deflector plate in top position of stand.
5. Place Pizza Stone directly on top of Heat Deflector plate.
6. Close grill lid and allow Pizza Stone to preheat 10 minutes at 425°F.
Tip: For pizza, lightly spread corn meal on Pizza Stone to prevent sticking.
GRILLING
1. Remove cooking grate and light natural lump charcoal.
   The Heat Deflector plate is not used.
2. Wait 15 minutes for charcoal to fully heat.
3. Place Heat Deflector metal stand on top of fire ring.
4. Place cooking grate directly on Heat Deflector stand.
Tip: Excellent for fish, seafood, chicken and pork to retain moisture.
Tip: Cook whole chickens upside down for juicier breast meat.
Tip: For fish, oil grill and place fish skin side down to prevent sticking.
SMOKING (Option 1)
1. Remove cooking grate and light natural lump charcoal.
2. Wait 15 minutes for charcoal to fully heat.
3. Place Heat Deflector plate in bottom position.
4. Place Heat Deflector metal stand on fire ring.
5. Place cooking grate on Heat Deflector metal stand.
6. Close grill lid and adjust air flow to reach desired temperature.
Tip: Excellent for low-temperature smoking.
Tip: Place an aluminum roasting pan on ceramic plate to catch drippings.
SMOKING (Option 2)
1. Remove cooking grate and light natural lump charcoal.
2. Wait 15 minutes for charcoal to fully heat.
3. Place Heat Deflector metal stand on top of fire ring.
4. Place Heat Deflector plate in top position.
5. Place cooking grate on Heat Deflector metal stand.
6. Close grill lid and adjust air flow to reach desired temperature.
Tip: Excellent for increased smoky flavor with a shorter cooking period.
